One of the most visible student organizations on the campus of Carterville High School is the Carterville High School Pride of the Lions Marching Band. This year the band consists of approximately 70 students. The band is lead on the field by drum majors Abby Null and Elizabeth Bush. Each fall the Pride performs their themed field show during halftime at all home football games and at major competitions in the Southern Illinois, Central Illinois, and Southeast Missouri area. Every other year the band does a trip during spring break. Previous spring trip performances include Nashville, Tennessee, and the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. This year the band is planning to travel to Chicago, Illinois in the Spring of 2018. The band has a previous history as the Carterville High School Marching Lions. During the Summer of 2014 the band changed their name to the Pride of the Lions Marching Band.
Their Fall 2017 production is entitled “Pastime Paradise: Awakening”. The show includes the following movements: Creation, Aqua, Terra Firma, and Paradise. They are under the direction of Nicholas Williams. Special Staff includes: Taylor Dunning-Music and Leadership Tech, Dustin Kelley-Drum Line, Michael Wallace-Front Ensemble, Richard Tomasello-Color Guard/Auxiliary, Alex Hooker-Color Guard Tech, and Gabe Herbst-Sound.
